Is the law regarding independent prescribing of unlicensed drugs going to change?

0

Following a public consultation on mixing of medicines, the MHRA have announced recommendations from the Commission on Human Medicines’ to allow nurse and pharmacist independent prescribers to be able to mix medicines and prescribe unlicensed medicines for their patients, on the same basis as doctors. The recommendations have been agreed by Ministers and it is intended that the changes will take place before the end of 2009. Changes will also be required to the Misuse of Drugs Act for this to apply to mixing of controlled drugs and the MHRA will approach the Home Office regarding this.
