Is the law of attraction real?
On One Hand: Anecdotal Claims AboundThe Law of Attraction states that whatever you spend your time and energy focusing on will eventually come to you, whether you think about negative things you dread, or positive things you want. Proponents of the Law of Attraction say those who utilize it have accomplished amazing things, such as healing cancer and becoming wealthy. The bestselling book “The Secret” has popularized the Law of Attraction recently.On the Other: No Scientific ProofWhile proponents of the Law of Attraction claim that it is based on scientific evidence that like attracts like, scientists have rebuked this, pointing to obvious examples like magnets, in which opposites attract. There are no scientific studies that support the claims made by Law of Attraction supporters. The Law of Attraction, The Secret, A Course in Miracles, are all part of “New Age” and the “New Thought Movement”, but there is nothing new about them. Although much of it is couched in Christian terminology or may speak of Jesus or Abraham, etc., they bear no resemblance to the Biblical people they pretend to be. There are hidden dangers in New Age and New Thought teachings. In the end, they deny a singular, transcendent God–the God of us all– and you are led to believe that YOU are god. Sooner or later, these spiritualities will fail you. You are not God and there are many things beyond your control. You will come to know that, no matter how much you try to think differently. Know this: There is a God and you’re not him.
