Is the keel billed toucan a good pet?
Keel-billed toucans tend to be friendly, intelligent, and can make good pets. You can teach a toucan to do tricks. They must be fed fresh fruit and pellets daily. They aren’t seed eaters like most pet birds. Papaya, bananas, and grapes are their favorite fruits. Don’t feed toucans citrus fruits because they can cause digestive problems. They need fresh water daily. They need to be housed in a large cage or aviary. One con to owning a toucan is that they can be messy. I received this information from someone at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh where I visited in May. They had a beautiful keel-billed toucan on exhibit.
