Is the Katadyn Hiker Microfiler easy to service?
Yes, Katadyn hiker microfilter is very easy to take care of in the field. Hiker comes with a service manual with tips on easy tips you can do (I keep mine in a plastic bag with my filter). In side the carrting bag is a cloth service tips sewed in to the inside of the bag. Reading these over and geting to know your filter will make any service problems in the field a easy fix. Keep the prefilter attached to the inlet hose when ever filtering water. This will keep from causing water flow problems through the filter body. The last two years I have not had any problems with mine. The only thing Im not shur about is the amount of water the filter will produce. But I have filtered almost 3 gallons of water that was so sility you could not see the bottom in only a inch of water. So I know that took a lot of life away from the filter.
