You should definitely buy the software upgrade. It’s totally worth it. Software from the installer.app program is usually not very stable, but the upgrade has never crashed on me. It all works perfectly and really shows off what the iPod can do. Of course, I also reccomend jailbreaking your iPod too. I couldn’t find very many good mail apps from the installer.
