The fin of a shark that sticks out of the water is called the first dorsal fin. The fin that is down further on the shark’s spine is the second dorsal fin and the fin on the underside of the shark is called the pectoral fin. Sharks can only drift away from objects directly in front of them because their fins do not allow them to move in the tail-first direction. ChaCha on!
