Is the importance of aggregate resources recognized in local policy documents including General Plans?
The State of California, Sacramento County and their neighboring cities all recognize the importance of local aggregate resources in their long term planning. The State requires that all counties identify aggregate resources in the general plan process through the incorporation of state designated aggregate resource areas. Sacramento County’s General Plan Land Use element also supports the recognition, protection, and extraction of aggregate resources. It states that the “purpose of the Aggregate Resource Area combining designation is to identify areas with valuable mineral resources and protect those resources as open space until the area is mined.
