Is the human need to belong INNATE?

Yes. I’d say that it has been a prominent desire since the beginning of humanity. We traveled in packs it seems. We hunted, we gathered, and we lived together. We built societies. We wanted to be a part of something bigger. One does not want to be an outcast. Thus, we developed common languages and shunned those who did not belong. If one does not belong in one place, then one simply finds another. Loneliness is a burden that humanity does not wish to bear. Individualism is something all of us seek as well. However, we still seek a sense of purpose and that makes us want to belong. Humanity seeks a higher calling. In a group, that may be more easily accomplished.
