Essentially, yeah. Although what makes us different from just a giant test tube is the fact that these reactions are highly organized and regulated. Opposing reactions are kept separate from each other to avoid futile cycles, for example. So I think to make things more legit in your professor’s eyes is to mention something about segregation of all of these reactions and regulation to make sure they all happen at the right time. If you’re looking for more stuff about this, look up a guy named Claude Bernard. He was a huge pioneer in physiology back in the day, and talked about the body’s “internal milieu”. Also, Walter Bradford Cannon is another good one (he coined the term “homeostasis”). Have fun! Note: Looking at some of the other answers, “perpetual” may not be the best word to use.
