This was selected as Best Answer I have no direct experience with offshore Chinese operations however two close friends had extensive experience in the engineering, set up and on ongoing manufacturing operations of several initiatives. From their roles they provided several anecdotes related to quality and efficiencies. Both categories were lacking compared to US counterparts/origins. Partially due to a lack of training but a core weakness appeared to be a dedicated mindset for high quality and personal acceptance of performance. This would relate more to the former question about Chinese workers being more efficient (which they are not). However, the results were that the American companies had to reduce their manufacturing facilities to short runs, automated systems and tight control loops that required a minimal amount of human input.
