Is the history of female oppression really in question?
Some people still question whether the Earth is really round, or closer to your question, whether the holocaust really happened. Idiots and the willfully ignorant will always be with us. Society only progresses when they aren’t in control. As to why, I wish I knew. People like scientists throw out their pet theories when the facts don’t fit, and develop new theories. Strongly prejudiced people seem to throw out the facts. I’ve never understood why, and I wonder if I ever will.
You’re right; the history is as clear as the nose on one’s face. I think people do this to bait or hurt groups of people they don’t like. Anti-Semites deny or minimize the history of anti-Semitism . While I strongly agree with the view that it is supremely offensive to compare any event to the Holocaust, I don’t think that discussing the psychology of Holocaust deniers here implicitly does that. It’s also a very obvious analogy to those who deny the history of women’s oppression. Holocaust deniers are motivated by antipathy toward Jews and deny a history, including the actual numbers of innocent people killed, that we know only because it was meticulously documented by the Nazis themselves. Racists minimize racism. Now there are misogynists minimizing sexism. I don’t think ANY of these people know the history well enough to question it. They aren’t you or me reading the hundreds of footnotes at the end of a history book. They just spout this stuff out, or they’ve read propaganda and re
