Is the health care market an example of perfect competition?
There is no real competition, perfect or otherwise, normally in the US system of “health care.” Prices are NOT advertised. The majority of people have a third party payer–insurance through work or the government so they go where they’re told, etc. It’s rare for people to have an actual CHOICE in who will insure them–certainly all the plans in their state are NOT open to them to choose from in most cases. Why? Things like “pre-existing conditions” or the like. You can’t buy insurance that goes across state lines–except for Medicare–the states won’t allow it.
