Is the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies (HGSAS) accredited?

0

Yes, the HGSAS is an affiliate of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and since it is located in the North Central region, it is accredited by the HLC of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). In 2004, the school achieved candidacy status followed by initial accreditation in 2007. The following is a brief history of the HGSAS’s accreditation: • In 1997, Hazelden Foundation senior leaders began work with its Board of Trustees to phase out the Chemical Dependency Counselor Training Institute and launch an institution of higher learning dedicated specifically to educating tomorrow’s leaders in addiction counseling. • The Chemical Dependency Counselor Training Institute was closed and the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies was established. The first class was admitted in fall 1999. • In 2000, the state of Minnesota authorized degree-granting status to the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies for the master of arts degree in addiction counseling. •
