Yes. The Library Board has reviewed the status of branches as part of a review of all library locations. The results of that review can be found in the Hamilton Public Library Boards Facilities Master Plan (January 2007). This plan is posted on the library website (hpl.ca) and has been there for more than a year. It received wide publicity early last year. This report, accepted by the Library Board after three years of work, determined that seven branch locations do not meet and cannot meet new obligations under provincial law. (The Ontarians with Disabilities Act). Carlisle, Lynden, Millgrove, and Rockton buildings fall into this category. While the current Waterdown building could be renovated to meet legal requirements, doing so would take too much room inside. The building itself needs to be much larger in order to accommodate growth in the community. It cannot expand at its current site.
