Is the Guide appropriate for children?

A8. Canada’s Physical Activity Guide to Healthy Active Living is applicable to all Canadians. However, plans are underway to develop a Guide Supplement for Children. Regular physical activity is critical to healthy childhood growth and development – the Supplement for Children would feature recommendations that are more targeted to kids, use examples with children in them, and suggest activities that youngsters typically like to do. In the meantime, if all children followed the Guide recommendations, we would have much more active kids than is the case now. There are six vignettes in the Guide Handbook which focus on people who have become active and outline how they got started on the road to active living. None of these focus specifically on children, but two of the vignettes focus on parents who are active with their children. The Guide also highlights building physical activity into your daily life “at home, at school, at work, at play, and on the way” using examples of activities
