Is the Georgia-Russia fighting a plus for McCain, since military defense is his area of expertise?
Obama is very appealing to those that want change, to the young and idealistic, and to many who see his nomination as a path to moving beyond our image that has been created by the current Bush Administration. But any sort of crisis makes people think about his inexperience and unproven abilities to handle those dangerous crisis that arise in the world. McCain isn’t as articulate and can be tagged with some of the Bush legacy but he is deeply experienced and has proven abilities. Anytime a crisis erupts, it is glaringly obvious who is prepared to deal with it and who isn’t. McCain knew the Georgia leader well, had been to Georgia, knew the facts on the ground, keep in telephone contact and correctly identified the correct attitude and path to take. Obama did what any inexperienced but articulate person would do, he issued a correct sounding but vague set of platitudes, then modified his position to more closely match the McCain position as the crisis developed.
