No. No government funding has been sought for the Genographic Project. This is an international, decentralized effort to make sense of our common past as a species. In addition to National Geographic’s contributions, IBM is providing advanced technology and research assistance and is contributing to the communication and promotional efforts associated with the Genographic Project. Furthermore, the field science and research is funded by the Waitt Family Foundation. Applied Biosystems is a supporting partner for the laboratory research.
