Is the game truly non linear or is it lock/key partitioned?
The game is loosely divided into different adventures, the castles and dungeons, etc. generally being located somewhere in the wilderness areas where the different towns reside. You’re pretty much free to choose the order you do things within each wilderness section, and unless you are trapped somewhere, can generally play a portion of one adventure, then go play a part of another one, etc. i.e. you don’t have to finish one to go on to another one. You can also head back to town, or try to proceed to the next town, where you can explore further wilderness beyond. There are a few places where the game blocks you from proceeding too far astray until you resolve certain basic quests set before you, i.e. you must have the Mavin Sword before you will be able to reach the game’s ending – duh! However, you could choose to throw the Mavin Sword into the forest if you wanted to be certain that you would fail; the game doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be able to reach the ending if you choose to pl
