Is the Frozen Yogurt Business a growing segment of the food industry?
A. Frozen Desert is a $35 Billion dollar a year business. Ice cream has traditionally dominated the frozen desert category and currently accounts for almost $30 Billion dollars a year. However, Frozen Yogurt accounts for approximately 5% of the total frozen desert market and is the fastest growing segment of the industry. Frozen Yogurt represented $1.7 Billion a year (approximately 5%) of the frozen desert industry in 2008 and is projected to double to over $3 Billion plus in the next 5 years. That growth would project to over 20% annual growth year over year for the entire frozen yogurt industry. Currently, frozen yogurt is experiencing phenomenal growth with retail sales of frozen yogurt exploding over 33% from 2007 to 2008. In the past 2 years, frozen yogurt retail sales have grown in excess of 23.3% and is the only food category to have had double digit growth in the past 8 consecutive business quarters.
