Is the french quarter in new orleans where the prostitutes were during the storyville era?
No. Storyville was an area outside the French Quarter, but only about 2 blocks outside. The neighborhood was designated as a “red light” district in 1897 in an effort to regulate prostitution and restrict it to a specific area. In its wisdom, the federal goverment ended Storyville as a district of legalized prostitution in 1917. The businesses in the area continued to operate as regular bars & clubs but the neighborhood declined and was demolished in the 1930s. Public housing (the Iberville Public Housing Development) was built on the site in 1939 and almost all of the Storyville era buildings are gone.
