Cornwall County Council opened the debate and stated there is a clear forecast for jobs and that reliance on past trends is flawed as the Convergence Programme will have an impact. Employment land figures are not necessary, especially as a job target already exists, this should be dealt with at the local level. It was suggested that the Urban Regeneration Company would have a key role in bringing forward land at CPR. Pool has the largest swathe of brownfield land and higher density employment space will be allocated here. English Partnerships also stated that they identify CPR as a core project in Cornwall of strategic significance. They have approval for £30 million of investment to bring land at Pool forward. There was discussion on the level of jobs likely to be created, particularly as a result of the Convergence Programme, and the levels of employment land needed.
