Is the film Hostel based on a true story?
Actually, not to contradict everybody, but it is somewhat true. However, the real setting for this story does not take place in Eastern Europe. It is based off a real life situation that occured in Thailand. It began where people would gamble to see how long a person would survive being tortured and evolved into people paying to torture and kill these tourists themselves. That is the true origin of the movie, although officially, no records of this can be found through modern means.
