Is the FH amendment bill for the ‘Swiss-Made Ordinance for watches”being tabled as long as the legislative amendment project Swissness is unfinished?
No. The Federal Council explained in its response to the Berberat Interpellation of 4 October 2007 (in German, French or Italian) that the amendment drafted by the FH is problematical in relation to the supplementary watch agreement signed between Switzerland and the European Economic Community in 1972 (in German, French or Italian). The Federal Council does not see any need to renegotiate with the European Union at the moment in view of the priority of the legislative amendment project Swissness. It is of the opinion that the watch industry should use the time needed for the amendment of the legislative basis upon which the ‘Swiss-Made Ordinance’ is based to review its strategy in order to submit a modified amendment bill for this Ordinance as soon as the new legislation is finalized.
