Is the fast-tracked intimacy a benefit of internet dating?
Monte believes the immediate nature of the internet means that online dating is intended to hurry the process of falling in love. “There you are sitting at home in the comfort of your home or bedroom in your PJ’S, scratching your bum and you feel totally comfortable in your space and you have a computer screen if front of you- so you are inclined to take more risks online and if that is reciprocated then it can progress,” says Monte. What do you hope the book will achieve? “If it gives people hope to give it a shot and maybe take the chance on the internet – it didn’t work out between us in that sense, but what we had was still a beautiful journey that we wouldn’t have had if we didn’t take a chance. “If it encourages people to try it themselves we see it as a positive,” he said.
