Yes, the mystery is real. There was a ship called Mary Celeste (or sometimes written as Marie Celeste), and it was found abandoned. When I was a kid, I found the story completely bizarre and somewhat frightening, but not any more. The most likely scenario is that something happened on the ship that made the captain believe that the best option was to abandon the ship, possibly with the intention of returning when whatever the threat was had passed, and the lifeboat simply drifted too far and was lost at sea. The theory that makes the most sense to me is that the cargo they were carrying (some sort of alcohol, if I recall correctly) was giving off some sort of noxious gas or perhaps reacting with the air (I saw a documentary once that suggested that the hold actually belched flame due to a chemical reaction that I can’t recall now). They were carrying dangerous cargo, that much is certain, and the lifeboat was missing when the ship was found. Ships/planes in the Bermuda Triangle tend to
