Is the faculty just complaining about money?
No, it is much more than that. It is about justice and fairness, recruitment and retention, and the future of the University. Without higher salaries WOU cannot attract new faculty or retain current faculty. Did you know that WOU has the highest rate of losing faculty in the state? On average WOU loses almost 10 professors a year, either for retirement or for better-paying jobs. Every year we are turned down by prospective professors because of low salaries and high teaching loads. We see this contract as a reflection of the priorities of the administration, and a referendum on the poor fiscal management by the administration.
