Is the fact that marijuana is illegal make it a gateway drug?
Yes, the PROHIBITION of marijuana causes marijuana to be a gateway drug in the sense that a lot of users have to go the the “hooded guy” on the street corner to get it and are exposed to the harder drug users, when the Netherlands legalized marijuana they saw a DECLINE in rates of harder drug use, they researched this and concluded that it was because marijuana users no longer had to be associated with hard drug users to obtain it. Also as one poster said, Marijuana can be laced with things sometimes which could addict you to the substance its laced with, but this would be even more reason to legalize it, If it were sold in stores by professional companies it would no longer be laced with other drugs, it would be like stopping in a store to buy a pack of cigarettes.
