Is the Excellence Model compatible with ISO 9001 ?
Yes. The two are compatible but different in nature and purpose. ISO 9001 is an international standard that specifies generic requirements for a quality management system for any size and type of organisation. It does not specify procedures or methods that would make an organisation world class. However, it does require an organisation to demonstrate continual improvement and to measure its products, services and processes. It is therefore clear that the Excellence Model offers itself as a comprehensive measurement tool and as a means of stimulating effort towards continual improvement. The two are complementary. The international standard ISO 9004 – Guidelines for Performance Improvement encourages organisations to exceed the minimum requirements of ISO 9001 and to adopt a dynamic approach to continual improvement.
