Stein and others have a couple of implicit and mistaken premises: 1. Darwinism denies God. 2. You need God to have morals/ethics. Both of these are absolutely false. Darwin looked on evolution as how God created. Most Christians have done the same. In fact, the people who go to court to defend evolution in public schools and keep creationism/ID out are always Christians. Atheists have never been the plaintiffs. Christians have grappled with Plato’s original question: “Is something good because God commands it or does God command it because it is good?” Stein and colleagues go for the first. However, that way lies the ultimate in relativistic morals. Morals have no basis but the whim of God. Saying “God is good” doesn’t solve it, but simply invoked circular reasoning. OTOH, most Christians say God commands it because it is good. In this view, morals/ethics are independent of God and God acts as a parent and gives us a shortcut to the ethic/moral. Think of parents telling their children
