Is the employer required to pay per diem for travel, meals and housing?
Answer Lou: No employer is REQUIRED to pay any employee per diem. Some employers whose employes have work related travel pay the employees per diem according to IRS guidelines. If you live in one city and work in another city and the traveling you are doing is getting to work in that distant city, the travel is not a deductible expense. If you are required by your employer to work temporarily at another location away from your regular work place, then you may have some deductible expense. Until I know more of your situation I will leave it at this.
