Is the e-mail about Irena Sendler rescuing Jewish babies true?
Yes, there was a woman named Irena Sendler (Irena Sendlerowa, born in Warsaw on February 15, 1910, died May 12, 2008) who did rescue Jewish children during the German occupation of Poland. Sendler is now best known for her work saving children with the Polish group Zendlerowa, but prior to that she had also been helping Polish Jews by creating over 3,000 false documents on their behalf. If you would like to read more about Sendler, you should take a look at this website: http://www.irenasendler.org/ It discusses her life, a play written by students from Kansas that has helped bring her into our national awareness, and projects that have arisen from their work.
