Is the Dreamcast more powerful than todays arcade game systems?
Theres little doubt about the superiority of Segas current Model 3 arcade board as being the most powerful graphics hardware commercially available today. Even so, its ability to generate around 1 million polygons is overshadowed by the raw power of Dreamcasts 3 Million polygons per second generation ability. Furthermore, Dreamcast supports more effects, like better lighting, full scene anti aliasing for sharper and clearer images and special effects like bump mapping and modifier volumes. While the Model 3 board does have some advantages that are awarded it due to its price (more RAM for better textures), the Dreamcast console represents state-of-the-art technology and thats why it has been adopted by over 30 developers for use in the arcade (in the Dreamcast-compatible NAOMI board).
