Is the design of Step 1 changing to a content adaptive test?
Not likely. At the November 2001 meeting of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) reported that they do not expect to move toward a content adaptive test (CAT) in the near future. In a CAT exam, the questions become more or less difficult according to the responses the examinee provides.
