Is the current construction at Union Terminal related to 2009s Issue 6?
The construction underway is part of the overall renovation and was financed independent of the levy renewal on the November 3 ballot. The 2004 operating levy funded 33-percent ($3.1 million) of project costs and additional sources were identified and secured for the remaining 67-percent ($6.7 million). The South Side renovation project will provide a good window into the overall state of the building that testing and probes cannot. This work, which will preserve parts of the historic dining rooms on the first and concourse levels, will also update HVAC systems, repair structural steel, replace windows, and fix the roof and associated parapets in this section of the building.
