Is the cover art a nod to that stylistic tendency toward collage?
Yes, definitely. We’re very rigorous in the sense that we like to apply our ideas on every level. I think the ‘sampling’ is more obvious on the sleeve than in the music though; every single part of the image of the cover comes from other people’s covers. We like to steal. At the same time it’s just a clearer manifestation of what our music is about. We like to think that nothing belongs to anybody and that everything is just personal/individual re-appropriations of our histories. We don’t believe in geniuses. We don’t like the oppressive nature of icons or idols, we like to banalize them. Integrate them in our makeup, our identity. Make them a part of us. On the inside middle of the jacket, there’s a face that looks a lot like John Kerry. Am I reading politics into something I shouldn’t just because you’re a Constellation artist?
