Is the County meeting the States mandated waste disposal reduction requirements under AB 939?
The County has likely exceeded the first landfill disposal diversion milestone of 25%. A waste disposal study is underway to formally calculate the level of landfill diversion our community has achieved since 1990. The waste disposal study will also give us a picture of the types of materials that are not being successfully recycled or diverted and recommend new programs to keep these materials out of the landfill. These new programs will guide the County toward the next milestone of reducing landfill disposal by 50% by the year 2000.
