Is the cotton used for fabric environmentally friendly?

No it isn’t. The quantities of water and pesticides required to grow cotton are astronomical and it doesn’t grow naturally in most of the places where it’s cultivated. Even so-called ‘organic cotton’ is bad for the environment due to the huge water consumption levels. A far better substitute, environmentally-speaking would be to use hemp fibres in the manufacture of clothing.
