Is the coating on the Ikari Optical and Laser mice different?

Yes, both Ikari mice have a different coating. The Ikari Laser has a rubber-feeling top coating with a bit more roughness. The Ikari Optical has a glossy coating finish but it has a bit less structure than the coating on the SteelSeries special edition mice that we have been producing back then.
