Is the closure of the blood donor program going to negatively impact CDHs bottom line?
A. Previously, the blood donor program contributed to the bottom line of the hospital. Through a combination of increased costs to run it versus a lower price for blood if we buy in volume – plus potential gains by offering an outside donor collection program – we hope to keep this economically neutral. However, this decision makes it possible to eliminate the additional investment in the blood donor program and instead to spend it on programs that only a community hospital can do well.
