No. The agreement signed between SHARE/WHEEL and the Seattle City Attorney’s office in March of 2002 recognizes the legality of Tent City. In March of 2001 Tent City moved to Trinity Lutheran Church in Ballard, and DCLU moved quickly at that time to issue a Notice of Violation, demanding the church evict us within two weeks. After the Church stood up to this threat and got positive publicity, more than 300 outraged citizens called the Mayor’s Office–during Easter week–to complain about the City’s action. The Mayor’s Office then promised not to fine Trinity, and indicated they would not act to fine a church for hosting Tent City again. After the court decision of September 27, 2001, it becomes even more unlikely that they will.
