After collecting information about the character, the writer presents the information in a written character sketch. A character sketch may be as short as one paragraph in length or as long as several pages in essay format. The character sketch begins with a general impression of the character, stated in a topic sentence or thesis statement. Then, this impression is supported in the body of the paragraph or essay with appropriate details and evidence, including physical traits, background, actions, what she or he says and thinks, and what others say and think about her or him.
