The Roman Catholic church is certainly different in those parts of the world where it is the majority religion, than in other parts where it is the minority. History proves that, over and over again, and it’s the same today. Go to Latin America, for instance, and see how ill thought of Protestant denominations are, both by the public and the Catholic clergy. It might turn out that the publicity recently given to 3 decades of child abuse by Irish Catholics in positions of authorities (nuns, as well) is merely the tip of the iceberg. It is safe to assume that where there is greater freedom of the press, and where Catholicism is not the main religion, there will be more exposure of abuse of children. But elsewhere, it is unlikely that such horrific abuse will be reported.
