Is the brumby a native Australian animal?
The Australian Brumby, a feral horse, is believed to have originated from domesticated horses brought to Australia by European settlers. The wide distribution of horses around the world is based on the availability of land bridges between different continents at different points in the earth’s history. The absence of such a land bridge to any other continent precluded the development of an indigenous horse species at the same time that it made Australia the unique home of many other species, such as the kangaroo and the koala.
