Is the Bowkaddy Bow Kover considered a legal encasement in Ontario?
A – Ontario legislation requires that a bow be “encased” during transport outside of legal hunting hours. Early comments voiced by members of the Ontario hunting community including enforcement personnel indicated that the Bowkaddy Bow Kover would meet the intent of the regulations. Following some speculative opinions, however, I decided to seek a more definitive answer from Mr. David Critchlow, Provincial Enforcement Specialist of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. His conclusion was that the Bowkaddy Bow Kover “is close to meeting the technical requirements of the legislation”. The quivered side of the bow is adequately encased, even though the arrows protrude from an opening, since there is no requirement to encase the arrows themselves.
