Is the body of a crab edible?
Be more specific in terms of species. Here in Maryland, the body of Blue crab is the main edible part. It’s where the back fin and most of the meat is. In Florida, where Stone crabs are prevalent, the bodies aren’t even harvested but thrown back to grow new claws. In King and Snow crabs it’s all edible about the majority of the meat is in the legs and claws. I believe the same is true of Dungeness. As suggested above, the gills (or “devil” as we refer to it in Maryland blue crabs) is filled with toxins and is not edible. P.S. I can’t believe the others answered this without specifying species. All crabs are different.
