Most students overly exaggerate the difficulty of the AP US Test. It’s definitely a challenging test, but it’s definitely conquerable. To prepare for the test specifically, I recommend taking good quality notes from your book, learning AS you go along so you don’t fall behind, learn a few memorization techniques (just google them), and listen carefully in class and take very good notes in class. (assuming you have a decent teacher) If you have a bad teahcer, then I recommend learning through your textbook and taking very high-quality notes along the way. Around midyear, I recommend getting a review book. AMSCO, Princeton Review, and Kaplan are by far the best. ALSO, BE SURE TO IDENTIFY YOUR WEAK AREAS AND FOCUS ON THEM!
