Is the Animal Welfare League of Arlington “no kill” shelter?
We don’t use the term “no kill” because it is so emotionally charged. The League accepts all animals that are brought to us. No one has to make an appointment or pay a fee to surrender an animal, and we do not turn people away whose pets have health or behavior issues. We only euthanize cats or dogs if there is a serious health or behavior problem. There is no time limit for any animal, and we do not euthanize dogs or cats because of lack of space. We spend thousands of dollars every year treating medical problems and we work with certain behavior issues to make animals adoptable. We will not place an animal for adoption that is a danger to the community. The League is an open-access shelter, meaning that all animals are welcome regardless of age, health, or behavior.
