Is the amount of coverage a murder receives proportional to how rich or famous the victim is?

Most violent crimes and murders in London are Black on Black and receives very little coverage. The two cases of violent murder this year that spring to mind Jimmy Mizzen and Ben Kinsella are both white, middle class and schoolboys. Both their murders were terrible especially for their families – but no more terrible than the other 14 that happened between January 2008 and June 2008 in London. For some reason the press and media in this country thinks their lives are worth more than than others – or is it just me and being cynical that it makes the papers more sell able if the white middle class reader can associate the victims with their own families.
