Is the alcoholic beverage absinthe legal?
Absinthe’s ingredient that is said to cause hallucinations is called wormwood. It was illegal in the states until recently. While it was banned absinthe makers used southern wormwood, which is said to be “wormwood’s petite cousin.” Wormwood is legal now, but I’m sure there are regulations as to how much can be used in the product. I think the crazy stories of absinthe come from the old days when the drinkers were more hard-core. When a drinker would melt the sugar cube, it was often cut with a drop of poison. (arsenic i think) I’m sure that adding poison to that strong of an alcohol would cause some visions.
