There are no plans to pursue a desalinated water supply for agricultural use at this time. The Agency Board has not formally considered any specific desalination proposal and therefore has not taken any position on the use of desalinated water to replace Central Valley Project (CVP) water. However, given the difficultly in obtaining CVP or any other inland surface water supplies, the Agency must use due-diligence in considering other viable alternatives. General and informal discussions have been held with representatives of Pajaro/Sunny Mesa Community Service District (PSMCSD) regarding the use of desalinated water for agriculture. PSMCSD has outlined a project where 7,000 acre-feet per year (or about one-third of the 23,000 acre-foot-per-year desal project) could be produced for delivery to coastal farmlands in Monterey County.
